Well-designed, all around. Works well on both types of valvesSep 08, 2010 This is a great pump that has worked well on both road bike tires (presta valves) and mountain bike tires (schrader valves). I've used it for over a year now. It is well-designed, all around. The handle ("love handle") is ergonomically shaped and comfortable to grasp while pumping. The feet at the base can serve as pedals for you to step on while pumping hard and trying to prevent it from moving. The air pressure gauge has a little movable red display needle so you can set it and determine when you have pumped enough air in. The nozzle has two separate holes (one for presta valves and one for schrader valves) so you don't have to fumble with attachment adapter pieces or worry about losing them.
Best of all, it works. I have no problems pumping my mountain bike up to the recommended ~50 psi and my road bikes up to the recommended ~120 psi. (You do have to push harder as the psi gets higher, but that's expected.) And I don't experience much air loss during the pumping as I have with other pump models.
Before I bought this model, I originally bought a Schwinn pump from Walmart (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-Steel-Floor-Pump-Gauge/dp/B0018CX1EG/), and the Schwinn one did not work well at all for me, so I returned it and then researched online for something better. I eventually bought this model based on the numerous positive Amazon reviews (of which I've come back to add to) and on the low price. I had never even heard of the Planet Bike brand before so I was a little skeptical. But after a year of using this pump successfully on all 4 of my bikes, I'm sold. I even bought a Planet Bike brand bike computer recently, which I'm also happy with. It is a quality brand.
Well made and fast inflation with the Planet Bike pump!Aug 19, 2010 The dual valve-head (shrader & presta) makes this pump a breeze to use for any bike, tractor, etc. I use this pump before every bike ride so I can adjust tire pressure accordingly and have had no problems. I truly believe this pump is equivalent to those that are priced around $50. Long hose, accurate gauge ... great buy!
Mixed opinion - but OK for priceAug 03, 2010 I've owned this pump for over a year.
First impression was great - very light, nice construction, and comfortable to use.
It is able to connect with presta valves on my recumbent where as my old 'JoeBlow' had a very hard time getting going especially with shorter stems. I have trouble using it at all on schrader valves - go figure. So now I use it for the presta values and the 'JB' for the other bikes.
The big issues I now have with it is getting it off when the correct pressure is reached (~100 psi) - really takes a lot of twisting and pulling and many times I whack myself or something when it does release. I also worry about bending the stem.
This pump requires many more strokes than the JB that I was used to, and the higher pressure requires much more effort, a lot more - almost like a short hand pump.
For the money, it't nice construction and light weight is a positive, but it is mediocre for it's intended use.
I'm ordering another pump shortly (Serfas TCPG Bicycle Floor Pump) - I hope that it attaches / detaches easily on the presta valves and is OK with the schrader. I suspect it is in the same category as to number of strokes and effort as this one looking at the Serfas barrel.
Good pump, good priceJul 20, 2010 So far so good. Very pleased with the pump. Have not experienced any of the problems noted in other reviews. Will know about presta valves later when I dig my bike out of storage & will update if necessary. This is a good middle tier pump that will definately please those used to lower end, cheap pumps. My guess is those used to spending much more for higher tier pumps may be dissappointed as it has a different look and feel but its proven itself to be mechanically sound so far so I would recommend it!

Decent pump w/ drawbacksJul 18, 2010 I got this pump in november and have been using it to pump up a road bike w/ presta valves. The pump doesn't get good marks for looks - it's a cheap plasticy device. But generally it works well. There's a nice gauge for PSI and the barrel is long enough. The handle is not padded, so I suggest wearing bike gloves when pumping of your hands will get bruised.
By far the biggest issue I've had is with the valve mechanism. And this applies to ALL of planet bike's pumps because they all use the same valve part.
1) the rubber seal can get shredded and not work well - my valve now flies off the tire at >80psi, so I'm buying a new valve. It should not have worn out so quickly, but at least you can get a replacement for cheap (at planet bike's website or on amazon).
2) The lever to activate the seal is *very* stiff. It requires a good deal of force to flip it up to seal the valve. But far worse is flipping down, after a little tug, the lever slams down. You have to have your hand there to flip it, and if your fingers are in the way, you will get really bad bruises, and that's just bad design. Think of the finger injury on par with slapping someone except at the last minute their face is replaced with a steal plate. Pretty bad.
